Friday construction

Praise the Lord the roof is finished! It was not poured without delay, but it was poured Friday night. The boom truck and the concrete mixers with the ready mix were supposed to arrive at 4:00 Friday afternoon. Instead, they arrived well after dark at 7:30. (That is why I don't have pictures of them pumping the concrete up to the roof.) However the men finished up in just a couple of hours. We praise the Lord for safety throughout the project! Today the church will consider continuing our projects with plastering the second floor and the facade of the building with cement. Thank you so much for your prayers during the last two weeks!

 The final straightening touches.

Thanks to three of the men from church who worked on the project. Diego, Julio and Jherrson.

Construction on Wednesday and Thursday

Wednesday was spent continuing to get the bricks in place and framing up the beams. Thursday was tying the rebar together. Tomorrow (Friday) the company should bring the concrete  about 3:30 in the afternoon. Lord willing Friday night the roof will be completely poured.

This is starting to look ready to pour the concrete.

Construction: Monday and Tuesday

Here are some pictures from Monday and today. Jherrson, the young man (20 years old) from church who is in charge of the construction, had a family emergency last night and we were in the hospital with him last night until pretty late so I didn't post anything yesterday. He was back on the job at 7:30 this morning!

It has been a blessing to work with Jherrson and get to know him better. He has been attending our church for the last year.

This is why a man's life span is shorter than a woman's!!! This is also why I have asked for prayers for safety.

Claudio trusts cement more than I do!

Friday and Saturday Construction

Not a lot happened that was visible on Friday so the photos I'm posting tonight were taken on Saturday.

The rebar to form the beams is getting bent and into shape. We hope to pour the cement sometime next week.

This is what the roof looks like now with most of the roofing bricks in place.

Thank you for you prayers to this point! Please keep praying for protection and harmony.

Thursday, May 12 construction

The bricks for the roof arrived today!

As you can see from the last photo of the day, they did not get placed on the boards as we had hoped.

They are inside the church on the steps up to the second floor and in the second floor hallway. We'll try again tomorrow to get them in place!

Wednesday, May 11 Construction

Diego is one of the young men from our church and is active in the youth group. He graduated from high school in December.  I'm glad he has a chance to help us out.

Most of the roof is framed up for the large roofing bricks to be placed tomorrow. If you look carefully you can see some fish line running across the boards and continuing into the lower left corner of the picture. This is how they get everything level.

This is what the roof looked like as the work day came to a close.

2016 Construction: El Manantial Baptist Church

This is the area of Lima (Manchay) where the church is located. The photo is taken from the hill right in front of the church building. You can see that Manchay just keeps growing right up the mountains around it.

Here is a close up of the church building. We are putting a roof on the third floor which will be an apartment for a pastor. I thought our roof looked pretty clean compared to others!

This is what the roof looked like this morning (Tuesday) after moving the wood up to the roof.

The young man in jeans with the stripped shirt is Jherrson. He has been attending our church for about a year and is in charge of the construction.

A closer look at the framing to hold the bricks.
